CURRENT PROJECT: The Impact of Trauma on Using Media to Regulate Emotion
Traumatic responses to media have been studied at length, but there has been a paucity of research on selection or effects of media on populations with mental disorders or trauma histories. This project is an exploratory qualitative interview study to investigate how young adults use media to regulate emotions and arousal, and how media use differs between groups with and without trauma histories. Data collection has started and is ongoing. The study was designed to complement my secondary analysis on Using Media to Regulate Anxiety, and will inform the design of an experiment investigating the relationship among trauma, media, anxiety, arousal, and emotion.
